Gladys A. Tarvestad

Gladys Annette Gonnerman Tarvestad, 91, of Rochelle passed away peacefully November 25, 2011 at Rochelle Community Hospital with her son and daughter by her side.. Gladys was born March 31, 1920 in Reynolds Township - Lee County, daughter of John and Anna (Cordes) Gonnerman. She was a graduate of Ashton High School, married John (Jack) M. Tarvestad on January 21, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa. John passed away on May 29, 1991. Gladys was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Ashton, Il., was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Rochelle, Il. where she was active in numerous church events, belonged to the Rochelle Women’s Club, enjoyed gardening, her family and being a homemaker. “Happy” was a lifetime Hubs fan and will be missed by her coffee and church friends. She is survived by her son, Gary (Mary Ann) Tarvestad of Rochelle, Il.; daughter, Sandra (Edward) Hickey of Rochelle, Il.; five grandchildren, Douglas (Jennifer) Tarvestad of Steward, Il., Sonya Tarvestad of Steward, Il., Ann Marie (Tim) Boberg of Littleton, Co., David (Melissa) Hickey of Phoenix, Az. and JoAnn (Jason) Yakey of Rockford, Il.; seven great-grandchildren, Abigail and Jack Tarvestad, Matthew and Andrew Boberg and Jalyn, Jenna and Josie Yakey. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Florence Kersten, brother, Corneilus Gonnerman and grandchild Nancy Ann Hickey. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday November 28, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church 14206 E. Flagg Rd., Rochelle, Il., with Pastor Steven Dow officiating. A one hour visitation will be held prior to services at church. Burial at Ashton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
