Blair Eckburg

September 6, 1926 — January 19, 2012

Blair E. Eckburg, 85, of Ashton formally of Amboy, passed away January 19, 2012 at his home. He was born in Amboy, Il. On September 6, 1926 to Oliver and Myrtle (Virgil) Eckburg. Blair attended schools in Amboy, graduating from Amboy High School after which he entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific during WWII. After honorable discharge from the Navy he was employed by Com Ed for 38 years retiring in 1984 as an area foreman. He married Lois Enrico on November 12, 1966 in Amboy. He served on area fire volunteer departments for a total of 52 years retiring in 2002. Blair was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ashton, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks Club. He is survived by his wife, Lois of Ashton; sister, Maxine Rasmey of Broken Arrow, Ok.; brothers, Don (Patti) Eckburg of Golden, Co. and Dick (Judy) Eckburg of Savannah, Ga.; sister-in-law, Judy Cleary of Tempe, Az.; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, three nephews and one niece. Services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday January 24, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ashton with Pastor Jonathan Black officiating. Burial in Ashton Cemetery with full military rites accorded. Visitation will be held 8:30 am to time of service at the church. Memorials have been established.
