Gerald Henry Sherman

Gerald H. Sherman, 80 of Somonauk passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in his home on October 4, 2013. He was born in Northville Township the son of Elmer and Katherine (Fox) Sherman. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1966 he married Hazel Barber. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk and a member of V.F.W. Post 1486 in Sandwich. Jerry spent 44 years as a dairy farmer on Little Fox Farm in Plano. Popcorn, coffee, and ice cream were the staples at his home. Saint Bernard dogs were his welcoming committee. Jerry looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren whether on the farm or playing a game of dominoes. He is survived by his wife, four children; Linda [Ed] Dawson of Quincy; Diane [Tom] Karpus of Plano; Janet [Rich] Lamberton of Sugar Grove; and Matt Sherman of Plano, nine grandchildren; Katy, Kristen, and Kim Karpus of Plano; Tim Dawson of St. Louis; Jenny Dawson of Springfield, MO, Joey and Amy Dawson of Quincy, and Bailey and Dalton Sherman of Plano, and brother; Richard [Deb] Sherman of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, John, and Raymond Sherman; and his first wife Barbara (Kaufman) Sherman. Visitation will be at Beverage Family Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL on Monday October 7, 2013 from 3-8 pm with the Prayer service at 6 pm. Funeral mass will be at St. John the Baptist Church in Somonauk at 10 am on Tuesday October 8, 2013 with the Rev. Brantman officiating. Burial is at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk. Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Church in Somonauk, V.F.W. Post 1486, or Open Door both in Sandwich.
