Dean S. Heckman 85, of Ashton passed away on February 12, 2014 at Franklin grove Nursing Home. He was born on October 28, 1928 in Amboy Il. to Leonard and Fern ( Halsey ) Heckman. He graduated from Ashton Schools and worked for Hodge Electric. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in Ramsgate England where he met and married Doris E. Belsey on March 14, 1953. He owned and operated Heckman Plumbing and Heating for 30 years, he then worked for Rochelle Foods until he retired. After he retired he stayed active by mowing lawns and doing maintenance and custodial work for the church. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed work working , crossword puzzles, watching sports and was an avid Cub’s fan. His greatest joy was his family especially watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play and participate in sports. He was apart of the American Legion, Ashton United Methodist Church, Ashton Lions Club, Ashton Fire Dept., Ashton Business Assoc., Rochelle VFW Post 3878, Past Commander of Ashton Amer. Legion and the Veterans Drivers Assoc. He is survived by his loving wife Doris, His children; Edward ( Penny ) Heckman of Glendale, AZ. Sandra ( Donald ) Stover and Diane ( Bryan ) Mammen all of Ashton. 10 grandchildren and18 great grandchildren .Brothers; Melvin ( Phyllis ) Heckman of Atkinson, IL., and Ronald ( Melba ) Heckman of Eureka, MO. Sister Donna ( Richard ) Stahler of Chesapeake, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Heckman and son in law Larry Fisher. Funeral services will be held Monday February 17, 2014 at 10:30 at the Ashton United Methodist Church 906 Richard Ave. Ashton, IL. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. at the church and also 1 hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment with Military rites will follow at Ashton Cemetery.
