Marvin L. Madsen 82, of Rochelle, passed away May 11, 2014 from cancer at Rochelle Rehab and Nursing Home. He was born on August 21, 1931 in Ringstead, IA. to John and Lizzie Madsen. After graduating from high school he attended the University of Minnesota ( St. Paul farm campus ) for 1 year before serving in the US.Navy for 4 years during the Korean War. After he was discharged he went back to the University for another year. Marvin married Sylvia Daniels on September 1, 1956 in Bruce WI. He worked for many years at DeKalb AgResearch, then Illinois Crop Improvement Assn. He made many trips to Puerto Rico for the winter grow outs in seed corn. He also made 1 trip to Hawaii and Costa Rica . Marvin was a member of the Lutheran Faith, The Rochelle Lions Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed shooting pool and playing Bingo at the Hub City Center and also traveling. His number one love was his family. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, brother Walter, sister in-law Clarice and brother in-law Allen Gilbertson. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, sons; Arne (Jan), Marlin ( Kathy), and daughter Gail (Eddie) Connatser, and 1 granddaughter Andrea ( Ande ) Madsen all of Rochelle, 2 brothers; Raymond of Kasson, MN. , Lyle ( Judy ) of Kettle River, MN., and 1 sister; Ruby Gilbertson of Baldwin, WI. as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday May 16th 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home 704 N. 6th St. Rochelle, IL. Memorial service will take place following the visitation at 7:00 p.m. with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. Memorial maybe directed to the family. www.beveragelyonsfamilyfh.
