William ( Bill ) Edward Greer

William Edward Greer, 66, passed away peacefully at Rochelle Community Hospital Thursday, June 12, 2014. William was born November 3, 1948 in Rochelle,IL to Betty and William McCain and later adopted by Ernest Greer (stepfather) He graduated from Rochelle Township High School in1966, followed by a degree in Business from Kishwaukee Community College. William then entered the restaurant industry, both as a Manager and as Head Chef. He amassed a healthy following of patrons along the way with both his cooking and his loving personality. William was diverse in his working career. In the 1980s he managed and ran a local health food store, sold real estate and also Commercial roofing. He then took his talents to the Daily Chronicle in the early 90s. Where he rose the ranks to upper management shortly, implementing new divisions to the company and establishing a culture of excellence within the chronicle. He retired in 2007. Profoundly generous and devoted to his family, Bill shared all the fruits of his labors with those that he loved. Bill was a warm, loving and kind-heart soul whose life was rich with laughter in the company of his friends and family. All of us that were fortunate enough to know him loved, respected and admired him. He is survived by his life-long partner Mary D. Hart of Chana, IL, Sisters; Deborah( Stephen ) Bryant of Rockford, IL, Lesa Kelley of Scarboro, Brothers; Michael ( Joey )l Greer of Sterling, Steven Bryant of DeKalb, Kenneth Greer of Rochelle . His Children Andrew Kellogg DeKalb, Myriah Fenelon of Franklin Grove, Haelan Hart Iowa City, Robin Kellogg Rockford, Casey Kellogg and Candy Kitchen New Mexico, Jessie Thornton of Rochelle and Gabriel Thornton of Seattle Wa. He is preceded in death by his Parents, sister Sharon Wooten and brother in law Gerald Kellogg His Funeral services will be held at Beverage Lyons Funeral Home 601 Richardson Ave. Ashton, IL. Tuesday June 17, 2014 at 6 pm. Chaplain Judy Williams. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. till the time of service . Funeral gathering will be held at Alfanoe’s in his memory.
