Ruby Catherine Hougham

Ruby Catherine (nee White) Hougham of Sandwich IL formerly of Downers Grove Ill passed away July 22, 2014 at Hillside Rehab and Care Center. She was born on March 1, 1931 to Josephine (Van Gemert) and Henry White of Lisle IL. Ruby spent her early life at Morton Arboretum, where her parents were employed, and where her grandfather, John Van Gemert was hired by Joy Morton as the first arborist. Ruby later worked on her parents’ farm in Lisle where she raised prize winning Chester White swine and learned to ride horses. She also worked as a keypunch operator for Burlington Railroad. She married Roland K Hougham in August of 1953. Her Christian faith and love for teaching children featured throughout the years of raising her own children. Her hobbies were sewing clothes and making crafts. She was known for her salesmanship in every endeavor, notably as a distributor for the Shaklee Corporation. She was generous and a lifelong blood donor and fitness enthusiast. She completed the Chicago Marathon in 1983 and placed in the top 10 in her age bracket. She is survived by her husband Roland of Sandwich Il brother Charles (Teddy) White of Barrington, IL, daughter Robin (Jerry) Foster of Hendersonville TN .and daughter in law Nancy Hougham of Sandwich IL.6 grandchildren; Jason, Nick, Angela and Jasmine Hill, Max (Lisa) and Clay (Rachyl) Hougham and families, niece Linda ( Mike) King and great niece Alexis (Mike) Florczak. She is preceded in death by her sister ,Ella May Ory 2000 her son Randy 2009 and her niece Laurel 2011. Memorial Service will be Saturday July 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Beverage Family Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Rogers officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at the Millington-Newark Cemetery at a later date. Beverage Family Funeral Home assisted the family. www.beveragefamily
