Berta Stone

Berta Stone 88 of Sandwich passed away Saturday August 30, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born May 22, 1926 in Senden Germany, the daughter of Charlotte (Kemple) Duthorn and Josef Duthorn. She united in marriage to Bob Stone on August 17 1956 in Hanna City IL. Berta proudly became a United States Citizen on October 17, 1961. Berta has been a member of the Sandwich community for 58 years. Berta loved being outdoors; walking about town, doing her yard work and helping all the neighbors do theirs also. She loved to bake (for everyone), sew, and knit (especially house shoes.) Berta was always cleaning something to perfection, and would tell stories of Germany to anyone that would listen. Berta is survived by her son Perry (Kim) Stone, along with the entire Bakel family, her brother Josef (Theresa) Duthorn, 1 brother-in-law Harold D. Stone, 1 sister-in-law Eulah Hamm, and many nieces and nephews. Berta is also survived by the family that adopted her. Daughter Jennifer Holliday (“OUR JOE”), grandchildren Angela Holliday, Ayycia (Ricky) Szafranski, Brandi Stiles and R.J. Stiles ( Bobby ) great grandchildren Seth Bark, Byrce Bark, Lil Owen bark and Kaylee Bengsteen. Berta was preceded in death by her parents Charlotte and Josef, her twin sister Ahnes Schafazik, and her husband Bob. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Visiting Angels, Mary and Berta’s girl Natalie, and also to Unity Hospice, her Tristin (Christin), her Bethony, and the rest of the staff. You have all become part of our extended family. A Memorial visitation for Berta will be held Saturday September 6, 2014 from 9:00-12:00p.m. at the Beverage Family Funeral Home in Sandwich Illinois.
