Gregory Glenn Oakes

d. October 7, 2014

Gregory Glenn Oakes, 64, of Sandwich, IL passed from this life back to his creator on October 7, 2014. Dedicated to Education and the Arts, Greg worked at West Aurora High School as an Art teacher for 35 years. An artist, who saw beauty all around him, he endeavored to expand his artistic abilities throughout his life by creating works of art using several media: printmaking, pottery, drawing and commercial design. Most recently he was awarded as an accomplished photographer. Caring and generous, Greg devoted his life to his family, which was his greatest love and joy. His favorite moments throughout his life were family gatherings, particularly those where multiple generations gathered together. He was a loving and caring husband, father of 3 and grandfather of 5. The family values instilled in him have and will be passed on for generations. Steadfast in his faithfulness, he was a lifelong Christian. He committed his life to serving God: nurturing and shepherding others on their faith journey and living into the flourishing of his own life as a child of God. Greg was a loving husband to his wife of 43 years, Sandra Lee Oakes (nee Walkowiak) and a loving father to Bryan Oakes, his wife Beth Brownlie and their children Alex, Spencer and Ian of Los Angeles, CA; Jeannine Oakes Daugherty and her wife Denise Oakes Daugherty of Chicago, IL; and Benjamin Oakes, his wife Jennifer Oakes (nee Kramer) and their children McKenzie and Colten of Sandwich, IL. Greg is also survived by his mother, Ruth Oakes, brother Ken Oakes and sister Beth Oakes Heath. Visitation at Beverage Family Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL will be held on Monday 10/13/14 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service at Harvest Chapel in Sandwich, IL will be held on Tuesday 10/14/14 at 10:30 am.
