Shirley J. Houghtaylen

Shirley Houghtaylen, 95, of Sandwich passed away April 21, 2015. She was born December 10, 1919 in Little Rock Township, Kendall County to the late Charles and Ida Colbe. Her childhood was spent in rural Hinckley, attending Fay country school and graduating from Hinckley High School. She moved to Sandwich in 1940 where she was an active member of the community working in many local businesses. She was married to Russell Dwight Houghtaylen in 1946. Her hobby was gardening and she loved to enter her flowers, fruits and vegetables in the Sandwich Fair. She is survived by her sister, Kathryn McGirr, and her niece and nephews, Connie (LaBolle) Bowman, Jerry LaBolle, Vincent, Kevin and Craig McGirr, Gary, David and Kevin Houghtaylen. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Dwight in 2006, her beloved son, Dennis in 1954, her parents and her sister, Gladys LaBolle in 2009. Visitation will be on Monday, April 27th from 10 to 11 am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 340 W. Arnold, Sandwich, IL. There will be a mass at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Somonauk. Funeral service were entrusted to the Beverage family Funeral home Sandwich, IL. www.beveragefamilyfh.com
