Franklin Grove-Erdeana Craig Tompkins, 98, of Franklin Grove passed away Saturday April 30, 2016 at the Franklin Grove Living and Rehab center. Erdeana was born March 2, 1918 the daughter of Ethel and Fred Craig and spend most of her life in Franklin Grove. She was married to Roland Tompkins also of Franklin Grove for 64 years. She worked at the Green River ordinance plant during WWII as a line supervisor making artery shells and bombs to support the war effort. After the war she and Rollie owned and operated Tompkins Hardware for many years in Franklin Grove. She and Rollie also became avid golfers after their retirement. She had a great short game and won many trophies for her pitching and putting. She and Rollie also spent many winters in Mesa, Az. They found golfing there was also enjoyable as long as they avoided the rattle snakes! She would say we don’t go in the rough for to recover our golf balls. She was famous for her beautiful, fancy and delicious cakes that she made for her family. She always had a theme for each cake. She was a wonderful and caring mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Survivors include her son Ralph Tompkins (Kathleen), step granddaughter Allison Peters, step grandson Brian Peters (Jennifer), her brother Fred Craig (Katie), and her sister Ethel Gallisapth. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson James Roland Tompkins, Sisters Edith Bunger, Emma Laws, Carrie McCarter, and Brother Daniel Craig. Visitation will be 10 to 11 AM Friday May 6, 2016 at the Presbyterian Church in Franklin Grove with the service at 11 and lunch at noon. Interment will be family only prior to the visitation.
