Celestine Ethel (Troeger) Kitner, age 96, of Sandwich passed away July 25, 2016 at her home. She was born February 24, 1920 in Squaw Grove Township, the daughter of Jennie (Baie) and Herman Troeger. She was baptized April 18, 1920 at the Evangelical Church of Hinckley. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sandwich. She married Glenn Kitner April 1, 1939 at the Federated Church Manse of Sandwich. They were married 59 loving years when Glenn died August 15, 1998.From this union came four children: Roger (Helen) Kitner of Sandwich, Curtis (Gail) Kitner of Somonauk, Doris (Neil) Miller of Sandwich and Glenda (Dean) Potter of Sandwich. She has nine grandchildren: Duane Kitner of Sandwich, Douglas (Annette) Kitner of North Aurora, Gina (Tom) Creager of Sandwich, Craig (Chris) Kitner of Streator, Glenn (Ginny) Kitner of Knoxville TN, Kimberly (Ken) Sterling of Kirkland, Alex (Josh) Shaw of Somonauk, Michael Potter of Greensboro NC, Matthew (Kendra) Potter of Somonauk; 20 great-granchildren: Kayla (Denis Djidic) and Hannah Kitner, Natalie and Lina Kitner, Allyson ,Cara and Faith Creager, Keelin (Justin) Willits, Conrad (Aubrey), Kabrina, and Corbin Kitner, Megan and Nathan Kitner, Alanna, Cassidy and Jacob Sterling, Xavier Potter, McKenna and Morgan Potter; and 2 great-great grandchildren Myla and Olivia Djidic. Celestine’s greatest joy was her husband, family and friends. She loved having family dinners or just a visit. When her father died, Celestine and her mother moved to Sandwich where she worked at the Sandwich Hospital and cleaned homes for several families in Sandwich. She loved this work and felt the people she worked for were her extended family. She took much pride in keeping a spotless home with white lace curtains. Her hobbies were raising flowers and embroidering dresser scarves and pillowcases which she gave to family and friends. Beside her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson Jeremiah Potter, a great-granddaughter Nina Kitner, a brother Lyle Troeger and sister Murnie Larson. Funeral services for Celestine will be July 30 2016 at 10:30 am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2465 W Sandwich Rd, with Reverend David Kaul officiating. Burial will be at Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be July 29, 2016 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Celestine will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. Memorials may be made in Celestine’s name to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, KishHealth System Hospice, and The Open Door in Sandwich or the donor’s choice.
