William Curtis Martin 92 of Sandwich, IL. passed away at his home on October 7, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born on July 25 1924 in Mt. Carroll IL. to Oscar and Elizabeth (Olshafsky)Martin. He married Mary “Fran” Osborn on June 30 1978 in Naperville, IL and was happily married for 38 years. Bill loved to golf and did so until he was 89 years old. He was a University of Wisconsin wrestling champ, Served his country with United States Navy during World War II as a Lieutenant in the south Pacific , was a Mechanical Engineer for Western Electric from 1956-1984, was a founding member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Naperville, was a founding board member and past President of Naperville Park District and a member of Salem Lutheran Church Sandwich. He also delivered Meals on Wheels until he was 90. He enjoyed family, golf, skiing, fishing and helping others. He is survived by his wife, Mary Francis Martin of Sandwich his children; Greg Martin of Ashville NC., David (Rae) Martin of Naperville, IL. and Robert (Jan) Martin of Knoxville, TN., 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Elva Martin, a daughter Dawn Ann Martin, 1 sister Ruth Jacob, and 2 brothers, Ray Martin and Milton Martin, and a stepmother Gladys Sturtevant whom he loved very much. Memorial service for Bill will be October 22, 2016 at the Salem Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Wayne Derber officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
