Donna Marie Ashby

Donna Marie Ashby 83 of Spring Valley, IL. passed away on May 8,2017 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born October 4, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa to late George and Elsie (Mall) Kost . She married James Ashby on March 28, 1958 in Princeton, IL. and spent the next 57 years happily married until his passing in 2015. She was Board of Trustee at the United Church of Christ in Spring Valley, and taught Sunday school for several years. She was an assistant manager for Ben Franklin and Dollar General (both in Spring Valley) until she retired at 65. Two weeks later she decided retirement wasn’t for her and started working at Marshall’s in Peru finally retiring at 80 years old. She was so proud of her family, wanting to spend all the holidays together or anytime she could get everyone together. She especially loved her trips to Disney with her grandchildren. She leaves behind to treasure her memories are her children: James Jr. (Amy) Ashby of Plano, IL., Robin (Roger) Stacks of Somonauk, IL., and Vicki (Pete) Fitzpatrick of Spring Valley, her precious grandchildren; Wendy (Troy) Ohlson of Somonauk, Jessica (Kevin) Mateika of Peru, Sara (Brian) Green of Spring Valley, her great grandchildren; Austin, Clayton, Dylan and Baylee Ohslon, Easton Green and Dustin Mateika. She was preceded in deaths by her parents, her husband James, a sister Arlene, and a grandson Nicholas. Celebration of life will be held on May 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Spring Valley. Arrangements entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home.
