Denice Lynette (Beckaert) Potter, age 54, passed away in her home in Yadkinville NC on May 22, 2017. She was born in Sandwich to Noel & Janice Beckaert. Denice graduated from Sandwich High School, attended Northern Illinois University, received her teaching degree at Southern Illinois University and her masters degree from NlU. She taught special education students in Leland , Florida and Yadkin Success Academy in Yadkinville NC, retiring in 2015. She was Teacher of the Year several times in Florida and No. Carolina and awarded Teacher of the Year by McDonald’s Corp. She loved teaching her special needs students. She married Michael Potter on May 10, 1986 at the Federated Church, Sandwich. From this union came a son Xavier of Brooklyn, NY. Denice was preceded in death by her parents, paternal and maternal grandparents and brother-in-law Jeremiah Potter. She is survived by her husband Michael Potter of Greensboro, NC, son Dr. Xavier Potter (Kaitlyn Hoeflich) of Brooklyn, NY, sister Jibby (Tad) Gengler of Sandwich, father-in-law & mother-in-law, Dean & Glenda Potter of Sandwich, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Matthew & Kendra Potter of Somonauk, nephew Jay Pfister of Nebraska, nieces McKenna & Morgan Potter, Uncle Terry Boeji of Kewanee, and special friends Diane Jordan, Cynthia Russell, Cindy Hobson, Meshelle Abell. A memorial service will be held June 10, 2017 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2465 W Sandwich Rd, Sandwich at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor David Kaul officiating.
