Daniel Dale Foss, a kind, gentle and loving soul passed away very unexpectedly on November 7th, 2017 at his home in Chicago from complications of diabetes and heart disease. Our Dan was only 47 but possessed the wisdom of someone many years older. He was blessed with a truly infectious personality and throughout his short life was a positive inspiration to many. Originally from Sandwich, Illinois, Dan, through much hard work beginning at the grade school and high school level in Sandwich became a very accomplished actor, stage director, and lover of film, passions he pursued throughout his entire adult life right up until the very end. He acted and directed so many plays in the Chicago area that they are too many to mention here. Dan was many things to many people but his love of family, friends, and theatre are what drove him to be the best he could be at whatever endeavor he undertook no matter what difficult roadblocks life threw at him. Diabetes was the final roadblock that eventually took him from us but he seldom complained about the sour hand that he was dealt and never lost the passion he had for the theatre and the people he loved right up to the very end. Anyone that knew Dan knew Christmas was his absolute favorite time of year. Dan could hardly wait for Christmas time to roll around so he and his shopping buddy, his mother, Donna could "shop till they dropped" from first light in the morning to well past dark in the evening searching for those elusive "bargains" that always seemed to appear in the holiday newspapers. Mother and son were inseparable come Christmas shopping time. Dan had another passion as well.......his feline friends with the sometimes funny names (Tootie, was one) were his constant companions and he loved his cats with all his heart and they in turn returned that love many times over. Dan loved all animals, but cats, even jungle cats seemed to peak his interest the most. Dan Foss was that "one of a kind person" who could somehow make everyone he came in contact with feel good about themselves and grateful they had crossed his path even if only in a casual or insignificant way. One only has to look at his Facebook page to understand just how special people thought he was. The tributes there are simply astounding and are a testament to how he lived his life. If you were blessed to be one of Dan’s many friends your life was much better for it. Many times in this life the good do indeed die young and if there was ever a prime example of that, Dan Foss fit the mold perfectly . "Break a leg, Dan", wherever your soul dwells. You are loved by many and you will be sadly missed by all. Dan was preceded in death by his biological father, Dennis Foss, his maternal grandparents, Bonnie (Foster), Walter Till Johnson and Gerald Thompson. His paternal grandfather, Lloyd Foss and his two favorite feline "kids", Holler and the gas passing, Tootie. He is survived by his parents, Donna (Thompson) and Jeff Cook, loving brother, Chris (Heather) Foss, grandparents, Janice Thompson and Wilma (Russ) Miller and so many wonderful friends and relatives that it would take too many pages to list them all. His best friend, Lisa Herceg and wife, Barb Lhota are contacting Dan’s closest friends in Chicago so that they may all help arrange a grand memorial on or near Dan's birthday, January 4th, 2018 at a yet undisclosed location. Details to be announced soon. Thank you to the many friends who made Dan’s life happy and enjoyable and please know that he sincerely loved each and every one of you.
