Vance Charles Pfeiffer, 90, of Rochelle, passed away October 23, 2007 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Il. Vance was born September 14, 1917 in Ashton. Illinois, the son of Henry and Anna Pfeiffer. He married Marguarette DeShazo September 15, 1946 in St. John's Lutheran Church- Ashton. Vance served with the Army Air Corp in WW II as an airplane mechanic overseas in many places including North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and Burma. He was a member of The American Legion Post 345 in Ashton, Il. Vance graduated from Ashton High School in 1935 as valedictorian. He farmed in the Ashton Area for many years, and was a member St. John's Lutheran Church. Vance is survived by one daughter, Sharon Stroud of Colorado Springs, Col.; one son, Richard Pfeiffer of La Harpe, Il.; one brother, Vernon Pfeiffer of Rochelle Il.; one sister, Iola Droege of Ashton, Il.; Grandchildren, Russell( Laura) Stroud of Longmont, Colorado, Levi (Beth) Pfeiffer- Deerfield, Il., Laura Pfeiffer- Macomb, Il.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguarette DeShazo and one sister, Bernice Gehant.. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday October 27, with a one hour visitation prior to services at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ashton, with Rev. Jonathan Black officiating. Interment Ashton Cemetery. A visitation will be held 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Friday October 26 at Coulon-Lyons Family Funeral Home 601 Richardson, Ashton, Il. 815-453-2441.
