Martin Witzel

Martin “Mike” Witzel, 82, of Ashton, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at Oregon Care Center. He was a lifetime Ashton resident and worked at the Henry Pratt Company in Dixon retiring in 1990. Mike was born May 5, 1926, in Ashton, the son of William and Freida ( Jahn) Witzel. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He married Jacqueline Wisman on May 7, 1949 in Ashton. Survivors include his wife Jackie of Ashton; one son, Jon (Faith) Witzel of Hendersonville, North Carolina and a daughter Denise (Terry) Greenfield of Ashton; and three grandchildren, Jenny (Greg) Cissna of Ashton, Gina Greenfield of Loves Park, Rebecca (Walter) Roell of Bloomingdale; and two step-grandsons, Ken (Maria) Taylor of Deltona, Florida, and Shawn (Debi) Taylor of Orlando, Florida, and four step great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a brother, Carl Witzel, and a sister-in-law Darlene Witzel. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday July 15, 2008 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ashton, with Pastor Jonathan Black officiating. Interment private. A visitation will be held from 9:30am until time of service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Ogle County Hospice.
