Alvin E Kennedy, Sr. , born December 4, 1933, transitioned from this life on Monday, May 30, 2022 at the age of 88.
He moved to Elgin, IL from Jackson, TN, and was employed at the Woodruff and Edwards Foundry on State Street in Elgin for many years. He then spent the rest of his life employed as a trained Carpenter for the Carpenters Local Union in Elgin until his retirement on or about 1998. While in Elgin, he met and married Barbara Broadnax, of Elgin, and to their union had five children. During his latter years he became an active member of Life Changers Church, Hoffman Estates, IL, under the pastoral leadership of Gregory Dickow.
He is survived by two sisters, Jeraldine (Kennedy) (Willie) Taylor of Grand Rapids, MI and Betty (Kennedy) Bonds of Gary, IN; his brother, Harold Lancaster of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, Alvin Kennedy, Jr., of Glendale, Arizona and Ronald Kennedy of North Chicago, IL; two daughters, Denise (James) Gordon of Orland Park, IL, and Sheila Kennedy of Elgin, IL; his grandchildren, Terrence Kennedy, Shaundeise Hinton and Corey Isbell, all of Elgin, IL; Melissa (Bell) Chambers of San Antonio, Texas; Roden Wade, Jr. of Miamisburg, OH; Dominique Wade and Ki'Ana McClelland of Carpentersville, IL: And Darien Kennedy of Atlanta, GA; several great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; two brother-in-laws, Ernie and Lester Broadnax and a sister-in-law, Arlene (Broadnax) Spann, all of Elgin, IL; and his devoted neighbors, The (Hall) Stewart family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jake and Georgia Glenn and his parents, Elwood Kennedy and Clara Lancaster, all of Jackson, TN; four sisters, Dorth Ann (Kennedy) Ballantine, Elsia (Kennedy) White of Jackson, TN; Freddie (Kennedy) Pearson of Grand Rapids, MI; and Gloria Baldwin of Elgin, IL; his ex-wife, Barbara (Broadnax) Kennedy of Elgin, IL; A daughter, Dena Kennedy of Miamisburg, OH; And a beloved Aunt, Eddie (Lonell) Clark of Elgin, IL,
