Angela J. Tregoning

Angela “Angel” Jean Tregoning passed away on March 3, 2025 in Sandwich, Il.

Angela was born in Aurora, Il to Marquita (Berner) and Edward Peterson on February 8, 1969. After her father’s early death, her mother married Wesley Tregoning who embraced Angela and adopted her.

She attended Hope D. Wall School graduating at age 21. She started working at Open Door Rehabilitation Center in 1997, first as a day client and eventually becoming a resident. She enjoyed many outings, especially if it included a meal. She remembered her family’s birthdays and sent cards on holidays to family and friends, always signed “p.s. Love Angel.” She was a great practical joker. It was not uncommon for her housemates to find a fake spider or a whoopi cushion in an unexpected place. April Fool’s Day was her favorite “Holiday.” Angela was a prolific photographer and loved taking pictures of her family, friends and anything that caught her eye.

She made an impression on everyone who knew her. So many of the expressions we use today originated with Angel. She was loved and will be missed.

Angela was preceded in death by her father, Edward; Mother Marquita and adoptive father Wesley W. Tregoning.

She is survived by her siblings Jill (Thomas) Hull, JoAnn (James) Hofer, John (Sheri) Peterson and Lori (Mike) Romani; Nieces Jen (Alex) Yavorski, Kate (John) Sisco, Kirsten White, Sarah (Brandon) Gebauer, Tess (Jack ) O’Leary; Nephews Jeff Knuth, Phil (Elly) Peterson, and Nico Romani.

A celebration of life is planned for a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed in Angela’s name to Open Door Rehabilitation Center, 405 S. Wells St., Sandwich, Il 60548.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many Open Door staff and caregivers who supported and loved Angela over the years. They are truly her second family.
