Dale R. Shatters

Dale Robert Shatters (Pa), age 69, passed away at home on the morning of December 17th, 2020.

After growing up on a farm, enjoying success as a basketball star, and designing tractors during an honorable 40-year career at Caterpillar, Dale retired to the good life with his wife Jeannie, traveling, motorcycling, fishing on his Mississippi River, and watching his children raise their children, all with a smile on his face.

Dale was full of joy, humor, wisdom, and love, and people just wanted to be around him. He was selfless and had the biggest heart. Dale had an aura of compassion, and would do anything for anyone with few restrictions, and there was nothing that he couldn’t do. If you spent time with Dale, you quickly learned that he seldom told anyone “no”, and if you were his grandchild, his favorite exclamation was “sweet!”

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jeanette Shatters. He is survived by his beloved wife Jeannie, five children and thirteen grandchildren: Jaime Metcalf (and children’s father Jason Metcalf) and Evan, Aden, and Kegan; Aaron (Sondra) Shatters and Owen, Isabelle, and Charlotte; Jordan (Dan) Thom and Jenna and Jaxon; Casey (Christine) Shatters and Dakota and Hailey; and Jan Michael Meade (and children’s mother Tally Thomas) and Lalita, Koan, and Keshava. Also surviving are Dale’s five siblings, Terri Hahn, Tom Shatters, Mary (Duane) Schmitt, Bob (Magali) Shatters and Karen (Doug) Stuehler, Marcie Shatters (former sister-in-law but forever family), and all their assorted children, grandchildren, cats and dogs, and a literal host of friends who provided countless hours, days, weeks and years of laughter and love – you know who you are.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry Street Sandwich, IL 60548. Cremation rites will be accorded.
