David Lee Buri, 87, of Sandwich, IL, passed away on April 25, 2025, at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL. He was born on October 26, 1937, in Aurora, IL, son of Michael and Genevieve Buri.
He married Verna Lee Dixon on June 14, 1958.
He worked at the Highway Lounge and Richard Wilcox in Aurora, IL. He then built his career at Fox Metro in Oswego, IL, for 30 years. After his retirement, he found a new calling to keep him occupied at Lynn G. Haskin Elementary School in Sandwich, IL, where he worked as a custodian and was affectionately known as “Grandpa Buri”. After 19 years with the Sandwich School District, he officially retired at the age of 86. He was a member of the Sandwich Moose and a faithful member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being outside and gardening, the Chicago Cubs and cruise and casino trips. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Brenda (John) Adrian and Wendy Buri, grandchildren Tyler (Brittany) Adrian, Trever (Alyssa) Adrian, Emily (Jack) Rees and Jacob Buri, great-grandchildren Landon, Levi and Lorelai Adrian, along with many other family members.
He is preceded in death by many special members of his family, the most precious being his wife Verna Lee Buri in 2019 and his son Michael Glen Buri in 2009.
All services will be held on Saturday, May 03, 2025, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church 2465 W. Sandwich Rd. in Sandwich, IL. Please allow for a private visitation with immediate family from 9:30am to 10:00am. All other family and friends are invited to join us for a visitation from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The service will be from 12:00pm to 1:00pm and is officiated by Pastor David Kaul. An open lunch with all of his favorite foods will be served from 10:00am to 1:00pm. His burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley, IL, immediately following the service, where he will be laid to rest with his wife and son.
