Dr. Joel Keith Wesson of Noble, Oklahoma, went to his heavenly home on November 2, 2024, at the age of 85.
Joel was born on October 10, 1939 in Waterman, Illinois to Wilder Wayne and Mary Ann Wesson, and grew up in Leland, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois for his undergraduate degree and his doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He served his country in the Air Force Reserves. Joel worked in a veterinary practice in Massachusetts and farmed in Illinois, Oklahoma, and Texas. He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture.
Joel was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Seabright; his brother, Gary Wesson; and his son, Joshua Wesson. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Wesson; brother, Tom Wesson; children, Wendy Green, Jennifer (Dan) Post, and Jeff (Annette) Wesson; daughter-in-law, Joy Wesson; twenty grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
We are left with great sadness and heavy hearts because of Joel’s home going, but we know he is in a better place. His influence in our lives will never be forgotten. He left behind a great legacy of love, gentleness, kindness and wisdom that will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Joel was a pillar of strength and a source of joy with a constant smile that radiated his unwavering faith, generous spirit, and commitment to his family. He felt so blessed to be surrounded by his grandchildren, and they thought that they were “more” blessed to have such an awesome Grandpa.
Joel loved his church and church family where He taught Sunday School, was a bus driver, and sang in the choir. He loved and served his Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful witness for Him. We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, rejoicing in the arms of Jesus Christ.
