Elizabeth (Olson) Finchem

Elizabeth (Olson) Finchem passed away on March 12, 2021 in Polk City, IA at the age of 59 after a courageous battle with cancer. Despite the pain, she came out a hero and stayed strong until the very end.

Liz was born on February 6, 1962 in Sandwich, IL to Newman and Emily Olson. She attended school at Sandwich Public Schools and grew up alongside her three brothers and best friend Beth. In 1980, Liz married Leon Finchem of Malvern, IA and together they had 4 children. After becoming a mother, Liz graduated cosmetology school in Illinois and later went on to be a salon owner in Malvern, IA for many years.

Liz is survived by her mother Emily Olson of Sandwich, IL; her 4 children: Leon Jr (Anne) Finchem of North Platte, NE, Lacey (Jeff) Davis of Ankeny, IA, Lydia (Melvin) Robinson of Marion, IN and Lucan (Allie) Finchem of Malvern, IA; her brothers: Sy, Rick and Jim Olson; 14 grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Liz was preceded in death by her father, Newman Olson Jr, her grandparents Newman & Jane Olson and Julio & Julia Chavez, and grandsons Bellamy & Delaney Finchem.

A private graveside ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL at 2pm.

There will be a public Celebration of life at Vinez in Sandwich, IL from 3:00-4:30pm directly after the burial.
