Isla P. Strawbridge, 91, of Rochelle, Illinois died peacefully at home on Saturday December 16, 2017. Isla was born in Hitchcock, South Dakota on July 31, 1926, the first child of Ted Whitsell and Pearl (Rawstern) Whitsell. Her family moved to southern Illinois and then Ashton, Il when she was a young girl. She attended high school in Ashton and business college in Dixon, Il. Isla was married to L. R. “Bud” Strawbridge on Dec. 14, 1944. They were divorced in 1976. Survivors of the union are her daughters Linda (Darrel) Daub of Chana, Donna (Tom) Heid of Cape Haze, Florida and her son Tom Strawbridge of Rochelle. Grandchildren surviving are Karen(Brian) Larson of Leaf River, Il; David(Dana) Daub of Mt. Morris, Il; Daniel(Suzanne) Daub of Mt. Morris Il; Tracy(Steve)Novak of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Shalene Eagleson of Stillman Valley, Il; Janet(Chuck) Gillispie of Yorkville, Il; and Christopher(Julie) Strawbridge of Lusby, Md. Great-grandchildren are Mallory and Isabelle Bergstrom; Matthew and Kaitlyn Daub; Spencer Daub; Jessica and Joseph Novak; Jordan Jenkins and Jacob (Natalie) Jenkins; Sydnee Gillispie; and Micah Larson. Step great-grandchildren are Joshua and Jarred Burcham of North Carolina. A great great-granddaughter is due in April. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Margie (Strawbridge) Gregory of Cottenwood, Az., many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and faithful dog Bobo. Isla was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dale and Lyle “Jake” Whitsell, sisters-in-law Barbara(Zimmerman)Whitsell and June(Tarvestead)Whitsell and her granddaughter Angela Daub Bergstrom. Visitation will be from 10 to 12 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 21, 2017 with Celebration of Life service at 12:00 noon at Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home 601 Richardson Ave. Ashton, Il with Pastor Chan Ik Choi of Chana United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow the service in Ashton Cemetery. Memorial will be established at a later date.
