James (Jim) Edward DeLay 90, passed away at his home which he had built in Sheridan, IL December 5, 2020. He was born November 23, 1930, to John H. (Jack) and Olive (Kanneberg) DeLay in Rogers Arkansas. He started work at Hinsdale Hospital, Hinsdale, IL. Drafted into the Army in 1951. he married the love of his life Myrtle Armitage on September 22, 1951. He served as First Aid Medic on the front line in the Korean War. In 1953 he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL, moved to Sheridan in 1958. He painted many houses, barns, and churches, built many garages, also built 7 houses in Mission TWP. Repaired and roofed many buildings and homes and was a general repairman and enjoyed his work. He retired from Hinsdale Hospital as an electrician in 1994. Many vacations were enjoyed in their small motor home. Gardening and feeding the birds were also a joy.
He loved and obeyed God. He was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church in Sheridan, IL. Through the years he painted the steeple 2 times with his ladders. He loved kids and was a Pathfinder Leader. He was an inspiration to many. Shared his faith with thousands through his personal testimony and literature evangelism.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle of 69 years, sons Gary Delay of Sheridan and Jay DeLay wife Debbie (Hecox) of Marseilles. 6 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Jackie Lief, brothers Ray Ivan and Lurel (Al).
Graveside services will be held Tuesday December 8, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Elerding Cemetery Sheridan with Elder Steve Bell officiating. Funeral services are entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home Sandwich, IL, In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to : Adventist World Radio 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Springs, MD. 20904
