Marc I. Barnhart, or “Barney” to most, was 68, when he passed away in his home on December 20, 2021 in Yorkville, Illinois. He was born May 11, 1953 in Champaign-Urbana Illinois to Carl and Bernice (Washko) Barnhart. Barney was a 1971 graduate of Oswego High School. During his high school years, he especially enjoyed a good drag race, spending time working on his ’70 Cuda, or sharing a good car story. He was married to Jane (Wackerlin) Whitt, the mother of his children for 25 years. Barney was a respected iron worker, and was part of Local 393 in Aurora, Illinois. He taught the apprenticeship program for over 25 years, and took extreme pride in helping mold the next generation of iron workers. One of his favorite parts of iron working was connecting iron. He was a huge part of many building projects in the area. He was a Boy Scout. He shared his interest of scouting as a Den Leader, Assistant Scout Leader, and was very involved with his son Brock’s Boy Scout Troop 114, of Leland, for many years. He enjoyed playing and coaching sports. Coaching, like teaching, was something he was passionate about. He was part of the Leland Little League baseball program as a coach or assistant coach for many years. He was a wrestling coach at Aurora Central Catholic High School while his children attended in the late 1990’s, and early 2000’s. Barney was a true American Patriot! He bought “American made” and always loved seeing the U.S. flag flying high. At a young age, he developed a love of firearms. He was a genuine gun enthusiast. He was always willing to teach and preach the importance of firearm safety. He enjoyed playing cards. He was recently teaching his grandchildren to play different card games. Barney was a stubborn, opinionated, and a hard-headed guy at times, but he was truly just a protective teddy bear. He will be greatly missed by many whose lives he touched.
Marc is survived by two children, Abby (Josh) Murray of Yorkville, IL, and Brock Barnhart of Somonauk, IL; three grandchildren, Luke, Caleb and Rebecca Murray; One sister Carla (Michael) Bradley of Marietta, GA; one brother, Scot Barnhart of Woodridge, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
