Obert Knudson Viland, Jr.

Obert Knudson Viland Jr., of Sandwich, IL, passed away on January 5, 2025. Obert was born in Morris, IL on January 10, 1943, the son of Obert & Evelyn (Gerhris) Viland.

Obert Attended Lisbon, IL grade school, then graduated from Newark High School (Go Norsemen) in the class of 1960. He Served in the U.S. Army from November 1964 -November 1966. He was stationed at 5th Army HQ in Chicago, IL & 249th Evac Hospital in Camp Drake in Japan, being discharged with the rank of Specialist 5th Class.

He was employed at Caterpillar in Joliet, IL and S.S. Viland Construction Co, before spending the bulk of his work life at Alumax/Alcoa Aluminum in Morris, IL and Lancaster, PA.

He was a die hard Cub fan and his favorite player was Ernie Banks. On February 26, 1972 he married Terry Boeger. She soon became a die hard Cub fan as well. They spent many happy times together at Wrigley Field and on road trips to St. Louis & Cincinnati. They were also blessed to have attended Cubs Spring Training in Mesa, Arizona on three occasions.

Obert was a member of the American Legion Post 249 in Morris, IL and the Sandwich Moose Lodge 1016 in Sandwich, IL.

Obert is survived by step-children, Diane (Wes) Scott of Yorkville, IL, Donna Franklin of Plano, IL, Bruce Boeger of Dekalb, IL and Bernard (Carol) Boeger of Newark, IL; 5 step-grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; As well as a sister, Linda Nichols of Morris, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents; His wife, Teresa; Brother, Raymond; And sister, Sonja.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 340 W. Arnold St. Sandwich, IL 60548.
