Roy W. Bell, Jr., of Montgomery, IL, formally of Ottawa and Sandwich, IL passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the age of 86. He was born September 14, 1932, the son of Roy W. and Mae (Bennett) Bell, Sr. in Campbellsville, KY. He moved to Sandwich, IL in 1950. He leaves behind his wife of almost 65 years, Carolene; three daughters, Dinah (Stephen) Meyers, Sandy (Denny) Matile, Shelly (Don) Zachary; one son, Gary (Michele) Bell; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was employed at Caterpillar Tractor in Aurora for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He and Carolene enjoyed many winters in Florida during their retirement. He loved sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears. He was an avid golfer in his younger days and during the first few years of his retirement. He organized and managed little league and girls softball in Sandwich. He also organized, managed, coached and played in an independent basketball team in the area.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 3 from 4-8 pm at the Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry Street, Sandwich, IL. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Funeral Home followed by graveside service at Oakridge Cemetery in Sandwich.
