Walter T. Tracz

Walter T. Tracz, 98, of Dixon, IL passed away on February 27, 2023. Walter was born on June 15, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Mary (Kozik) Tracz.

Walter grew up in the Bucktown neighborhood in Chicago. He attended St. Hedwig Catholic School and Church. He also attended Lane Tech High School.

Walter served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a Gunner’s Mate and served on a merchant ship. He served from February 12, 1943 to January 31, 1946.

He went on to be a CTA bus driver and also a store keeper for Exelon in Braidwood, IL.

Walter was a past Commander of VFW 2004 in Chicago for 2 terms. He was also a member of the American Legion and a current member of the VFW in Dixon, Post 540.

Walter is survived by his daughters, Barbara Cheffer and Toni Zulaski; Step-son, Ron (Karol) Poat and family; Grandchildren, William, Eric, Jay, Curt, Jennifer and Dawn; As well as many great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; His wife, Florence Tracz; Son, Walter John Tracz; Grandson, Gregory VonBruchhaeuser; Sisters, Evelyn and Irene; And a brother, Leonard.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 11:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. at Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry Street, Sandwich, Illinois 60548. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 with an entombment taking place afterwards at Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley, IL. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home.
